Pupil Premium was introduced in April 2011; it is paid by means of a specific grant based upon school census figures for pupils registered as eligible for free school meals (FSM) at any time in the last 6 years up to year 11.
For looked after children the Pupil Premium was calculated using the Children Looked After data returns (SSDA903).
A premium has also been introduced for children whose parents are currently serving in the armed forces. This service premium is designed to address the emotional and social well-being of these pupils.
The Pupil Premium is additional to main school/academy funding and it will be used by this academy to provide quality first teaching and pastoral care as well as address any underlying inequalities between children eligible by ensuring that funding reaches the pupils who need it most.
Statistics In The Academy
We have 519 pupils who are entitled to benefit from the additional funding, this equates to 53% of the Academy’s student population. Each entitled pupil received £935 per annum. In the year 2017-18 the Academy will receive £555,857.50 Pupil Premium funds.
Our Objectives For Pupil Premium
The Pupil Premium will be used to provide additional educational support to improve the progress and to raise the standard of achievement for these pupils.
At Willenhall E-ACT academy this provision will reflect educational, emotional and social needs. The funding will be used to diminish the difference between the achievement of these pupils and their peers nationally.
The academy will use the additional funding to address any underlying inequalities between children eligible for Pupil Premium whilst also extending opportunities to these learners that they might not otherwise have access to. We will ensure that the additional funding reaches the pupils who need it most and that it makes a significant impact on their education and lives.
Pupil Premium Strategy
The Head teacher and academy governance have agreed a strategy for Pupil Premium to guide the use of funds and to ensure that it represents value for money. This strategy was written following an external review of Pupil Premium in the summer of 2017.
The strategy includes a review of the funding from the previous academic year and sets out a range of actions and activities that will support the provision at Willenhall throughout 2017-18.
At the heart of the strategy is the uncompromising intention to make sure all learners but particularly those classed as Pupil Premium thrive and succeed at Willenhall E-ACT academy.
